Good day! The previous owner placed vinyl names on the transom of our 1959 Whirlwind and I am interested in removing them. I know I can figure it out, but looking for any advice and suggestions from individuals whom have done this before without impacting the transom veneer and/or finish. The new name will be the “Emerald Rose” as this hull has an emerald green bottom and our daughter’s middle name is ‘Rose’. Toolin’ Around just doesn’t fit our family of three.. ha
I have had good results starting by scraping with plastic razor blades. You might want to try it cold and see how it does. Sometimes warming it up with a hair dryer is helpful. Remove adhesive residue with a solvent like mineral spirits. Worked well for me.
Thank you Pappy! My daughter and I started with the plastic razors cold and they came right off.. a light rubbing with GooGone quickly followed by washing the area in a Murphy’s oil soap wash and the transom looks almost like the letters were never there! There is some light ghosting of the letters in certain light, but I am hopeful with some exposure to some UV’s the transom evens out over time. Thanks again!
