Looking for someone to do the transom lettering and gold leaf on my boat restoration. I’m in the Chicagoland area. I went with vinyl on my last boat but I want to go hand painted and gold leaf on this one. Thanks in advance for any leads.
I have not used these folks, but they sure look like they could nail it for you https://reindeer-fish-4whw.squarespace.com/
Also folks in the Local ACBS Chapter might know someone.
Revisiting this topic, I’ve decided to change from gold leaf to a painted transom name with a white lettering fill. The gold leaf was a bit overkill for this particular boat but I still want hand painted lettering.
My question is, is the process still the same where you would varnish over the painted name? Seems to me that the white fill would appear yellow with varnish over it. I have some white accent panels in the upholstery so I don’t want the paint to mismatch that. What are people doing in this case? varnish over or paint the name after the final coat of varnish? I’m a little stumped with this change. Thanks
Yes it will warm it up. So, Wait til its varnished and paint the name. Period. Send a photo of your transom and name and I can do a photoshop of how it will look.
I would do gold leaf so it matches the blond wood. Turq Outline and dark shadow. Fonts or tyoe style is also a huge part of the tone of things. Here are tow. [grid]

I can restore a boat from the keel up but can’t make a decision on this lol.
